Lego Building Contest and Visiting Artist

This week in social studies, the students brainstormed traits that describe an inventor.  They came up with some great adjectives such as determined, great mindset, dreamer, believer, problem solver, etc.  They also mentioned inventors are usually old!  I was quick to debunk this theory as I shared several inventions by kids their age.  Then the students had a chance to work together to build the tallest and most sturdy Lego structure in 10 minutes.  We spoke of the importance of teamwork, listening to others, and not being afraid to speak up and share ideas.  While they proved to be very competitive with the other groups, they did a great job working in their groups.  See pictures below...

 The winning structure...
If you have not already heard, the students participated in the visiting artist assembly yesterday.  They learned two Indian inspired dances and got to walk in the halls without their shoes.  Yuck!
