Lucky Me!

Last Friday, our class got to play the recorder at assembly.  They sounded great!  I can only imagine what their practicing must sound like at home.  :)

The students finished writing about what makes them lucky.  Enjoy!

Book Talks and Figurative Language

The students did a fantastic job on their book talks today!  Before the presentations, we spoke about how it is natural to get nervous when speaking in front of others.  One students said their parents told them to picture everyone in their underwear.  Well, one student made this very easy...

We have started working on writing stories about small moments in our lives during our writing block.  The students started this process by making a list of their most memorable moments.  They could write down anything they wanted, as long as they could remember the whole event (not something that happened when they were a baby). Then, they narrowed their list down to their top three choices.  I gave them the opportunity to sketch out these ideas about those three topics, and they selected their best idea from that.  Don't ask what they are writing about - it is top secret! This story will be five paragraphs!

As they write, they are working on adding lots of descriptions in the forms of adjectives and figurative language such as similes and metaphors.  We had a chance during grammar to practice drawing out some similes after listening to a song called, "Everything At Once" by a singer named Lenka.  I hope you enjoy the wonderful work they did on these pictures!

Valentine's Day, Maryland Landforms, and Kindness Rocks

This week has been full of excitement!  The students could not wait for our Valentine's Day party and had so much fun decorating their bag.

Even more exciting was the party!  The students did such a nice job thanking each other for the cards and eating some of their treats!

In social studies, the students are working in groups to research a landform in Maryland.  Ask your child what they are researching!

This week, the third graders painted kindness rocks that will be spread around campus and will eventually help add some beauty to the science garden.  Check out their great work...
