The students did a fantastic job on their book talks today! Before the presentations, we spoke about how it is natural to get nervous when speaking in front of others. One students said their parents told them to picture everyone in their underwear. Well, one student made this very easy...
We have started working on writing stories about small moments in our lives during our writing block. The students started this process by making a list of their most memorable moments. They could write down anything they wanted, as long as they could remember the whole event (not something that happened when they were a baby). Then, they narrowed their list down to their top three choices. I gave them the opportunity to sketch out these ideas about those three topics, and they selected their best idea from that. Don't ask what they are writing about - it is top secret! This story will be five paragraphs!
As they write, they are working on adding lots of descriptions in the forms of adjectives and figurative language such as similes and metaphors. We had a chance during grammar to practice drawing out some similes after listening to a song called, "Everything At Once" by a singer named Lenka. I hope you enjoy the wonderful work they did on these pictures!
