The World is NOT Flat?!



In social studies, we learned who discovered the world was not flat.  Many thought this was due to Christopher Columbus, but we learned about Ferdinand Magellan and Sir Francis Drake and why they are given credit for this task.  Ask your child to tell you about Magellan and Drake.

After learning that the world was not flat, the students went back in time and pretended they were cartographers who were tasked with the mission to turn a flat map into a spherical shape.  They were given a bouncy ball and a piece of paper.  The only instruction was that they had to wrap the ball in such a way that the paper did not overlap.  This proved to be a rather frustrating task...






During Morning Meeting, we read Peter Reynolds new book, Happy Dreamer.  The students got to draw a picture of the kind of dreamer they are.  See the pictures below...
