Unbe'LEAF'able Writing

For our last writing assignment, the students were given a leaf to trace on their paper. They were to use their imagination to turn their leaf into a picture of something with an elaborate scene. After drawing their picture, the students learned about using a sound effect to lead off their writing. They also incorporated adjectives to add descriptive words to their story. We worked together to edit and revise their rough draft, and then they had to apply their revisions to their final typed version.  They did an amazing job! Please celebrate this great work with your child and be sure to stop by the classroom to get a closer look.

You have already heard about the Mystery Oreos!  See pictures of the tasters in action.  All students made a prediction as to what flavor(s) they tasted.  Fingers crossed that we win!!

This week we have continued our mission to spread kindness to others.  On Monday, Augusta's mom came to lead a craft for our students to send to the people who are living at Brightwood.  The enthusiasm and creativity was unbelievable.  The students used lots of paint to make turkeys and crayons and watercolors to decorate a leaf.  See the beautiful pictures below.  A huge thanks to Jenny for doing this!

In social studies, the students reviewed what they learned about the explorers we have studied by matching the explorer name with their accomplishment.  Ask your child about the following explorers:  Francis Drake, Ferdinand Magellan, Christopher Columbus, Eric the Red, Leif Ericsson, Marco Polo, and Ibn Battuta.
