In social studies, we will begin our next unit on Maryland. We will be learning about landforms, state symbols, the Chesapeake Bay, animals that live in the bay, and all about water quality in the bay vs. developing countries in the world. As an introduction to this exciting unit, I asked the students to write about why they love Maryland. They did a fantastic job. Check out their work...
In literacy, the students are hard at work with their book club groups. I really wish you could hear the conversations that occur within the groups. It is difficult to hear what the students are saying when I record them, so I am posting pictures of each group meeting. Notice how they are all participating- either speaking or listening, they are searching for an example in their book to prove a point, and they are clearly prepared for the conversation. In my opinion, this is truly one of the most magical moments of our literacy block.
